Okay, so it’s time to SHARE!
Here are the two gals at my gym:
The chica on the left is Chloe. She’s so sweet. She’s learning English, and she greets me with a huge smile and wide eyes every time I come into the gym and she’s there. She even called me on the phone after I’d been gone for nearly a month and said “JULIA, WHERE ARE YOU.” I came in the next day 🙂
Seul Gi (aka FRINGE) is so much fun. I realize I’m about 25 kilos heavier than her (30 even) and yet she always grabs me to be my partner. We always laugh a lot during drilling, whether it’s because I have no clue what I’m doing, or because she’s accidentally kicked me or whatever. Yesterday we did this “Superman” drill where we lifted our partners up over our bodies–bottom person’s feet on the airborn person’s waist, and the bottom person holding onto the top person’s sleeves. I had this image of me crashing down, all 88 kilos, onto Fringe’s head. She kept laughing at my faces of terror. 🙂
Aaaaaand here I am rolling with my instructor. I AM NOT GOOD. But it made me laugh, and I AM better than the first day I started, so I am thankful for that. I ask that you please be kind. I have literally only 3 or 4 months of practical experience. Again, what I lack in skill I make up for in enthusiasm and having fun. You can see here why he makes me laugh so much–he has such a great spirit and can play around with me. Not once did he ever look bored or make me feel like crap. I love that. Also, you can see my back tattoo.
Woo hoo! It’s the full 5 minute video!

THANK YOU to Georgette for helping me upload the video to Youtube. Youtube currently disallows uploading videos from Korea because Korea requires a name authentication and Youtube ain’t havin’ none o’ that.
Cool! Always brilliant to see video of bloggers I read regularly, so thanks for sharing that. Also nice to see someone visibly having fun and laughing when training: couldn’t help smiling when you started doing that. 🙂
If you had the time, you could even film a little interview with your teacher and walk around the gym to show the facilities. Although that’s presuming the instructor’s English was good enough (or somebody was on hand to provide translation for subtitles). I’m sure that would function as a great advert for the gym too, considering you’ve got plenty of readers.
I really, really like Matt’s video about his time training in Japan, so it would be enormously cool to watch something comparable about Korea. Possibly a little ambitious, but meh. 😀
Very cool! Thanks for the response! I liked the video. I’ll have to think about doing something like that. I’m a bit nervous now to ask about recording, as the last time it initiated huge drama at my last school.
Nice video Julia. It’s great to see you enjoying yourself. Your instructor seems really nice. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy reading your blog so I’m happy that you have a ton of new posts for me to enjoy! Also, I gotta say, I’m lovin’ the bangs!
I saw you rollin’ – I was grinnin’
Gives me an idea of what sort of atmosphere I will be looking for in a school, too – there should definitely be laughing involved 🙂
Welcome! I hope you have as much fun in BJJ as I have been having!
