I have a confession: I love joking around. I started saying to my sparring partner, “Come here, I just want to give you a hug.” 🙂 Now when I ask my Korean friend if she’ll be in class I ask her “Hugz tomorrow?” or I’ll text her saying “I want to give you a hug. ON THE MAT.”
If you aren’t familiar with the previous picture, you’ve been hiding under a rock on the Internet. It’s a lolcat, a picture of a cat with text that adds to the humor. It’s written in kitty pidgin because OMG KITTY IS WRITING IN ENGLISH! Plus, CUTE!
Adorable, right? Well, here it is with my BJJ spin on it:
😀 Even more adorable, right? And here it is, personalized with a picture of me:
So now you know my secret: I think of BJJ as hugging. Or, as Shel Silverstein put it: HUG O’ WAR!
I will not play at tug o’ war
I’d rather play at hug o’ war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses
And everyone grins
And everyone cuddles
And everyone wins.
THAT is BJJ to me, except that in my gym the dudes don’t kiss each other 😉 But we roll around on the mat and everyone is cuddling! Yes, it’s true, when I see someone take someone else’s back or trying to I tend to yell “He just wants a cuddle.” It may not be appreciated. 😀 So when you see that gal giggling as she rolls, just remember, she’s playing hug o’ war.
Lol, the 50/50 guard position is now sometimes known as “Hugz Time!” in our school. Calling out, “Aw, it’s Hugz Time!” when two guys get stuck there is a sure-fire way to get them to disengage, and fast.
YES! Moar hugz plz! 😉
Your comment made me laugh.
hahaha, so cute and I can relate to that. We started calling BJJ/grappling our “aggressive snuggle” or “aggressive cuddle” time. There are some many cool people in my class, that we like to socialize at other events and parties apart from class. What ends up happening sometimes is that we all just pile on top of each other in one huge cuddle pile. It’s kinda infectious!
