On Jiu Jitsu Forums there are consistent questions that are constantly brought up, such as “Why do I suck so much at BJJ” and “which gi should I buy” etc. So I posted a slightly fun topic there called Predictable Posts and asked people which topics are always brought up. Someone wrote:
“Check out my BJJ blog.” That I will update constantly until I’m a blue belt…Then I lose interest and drop off the face of the earth.
Ack! Guilty! Ack!
I realized I was guilty of it because my good posts have been GREAT and I want to reproduce that, but then it becomes a time sink. And then I keep editing it. And the time to make the photochopped pictures. Oy vey. My blog had become a mountain that I couldn’t climb in my spare time.
So I’ve decided to do something different – I’m going to be using other people’s blogs as inspiration for mine. Linking back to their awesome topics and adding my perspective to it. I can’t have a good blog if I don’t write, and I can’t get better if I’m doing nothing. I wrote this blog in order to have a conversation, but if I’m not talking, the conversation stops.
The other positive about this: perhaps you will discover a new blog. Perhaps we will create an even more comprehensive community of connected bloggers where we get to read several sides to the same idea. I LOVE THAT.
If you ever find some inspiration from a post I have written, PLEASE write a blog article about it. Link back to the original, let me know you’ve done it and I’ll even post a link to it in the article if the pingback for some reason doesn’t show up.
And – already I have my next article written and it will post tomorrow (schedule’d!).
What has kept you from blogging as much as you’d like? What steps (if any) are you taking to combat that?
